To compose in Sibelius 6, and, when I playback in Sibelius 6, for it to use Reason 5 devices instead of stock Sibelius sounds.

I am using Windows XP, so instead of looking for an IAC Driver I have downloaded and installed MIDI Yoke. I was told this is a windows substitute on another forum.

1) Create a new document in Reason 5
2) Added one NNXT device to an ’empty rack’ and set sample as “Gamelan Vibes”
3) Edit>Preferences>Advanced>External Control Bus A = “In From MIDI Yoke: 1” (green check mark)
The other Buses are empty, and the MIDI Clock Port has “No MIDI input”
4) At the top of the rack, I select the ‘Advanced MIDI’ tab, and the Bus A light is on. I select the NNXT device from the menu at Channel 1. Everything else in Reason is default
5) I open Sibelius 6 with a new blank document
6) I add a piano instrument, and type out 6 bars of random notes for test purposes.
7) File>Preferences>Input Devices>”In From MIDI Yoke: 1″ is checked, active with Type=Keyboard, and Input Map=MIDI Keyboard.

Whenever I press play in Sibelius 5, it just uses the default Sibelius sounds and there seems to be no response from Reason 5.

Then you can export the notation in sibelius as midi notes, and up load them to reason and the notes turn into blocks. Then you can have a blast messing around with what you composed in sibelius on reason. Is is possible to sync these in some way to Adobe Audition?

Triggers to the NNXT overload it – it turns quickly to a vaguely pitched static (using a piano sample) when triggered. It sounds like it is being triggered over and over again, continuously by Sibelius. Do you know what the problem may be?

You CAN’T use the audio export function in Sibelius if you’re hooked up to Reason. Sibelius controls Sibelius, and although it is sending MIDI data out the IAC bus, Sibelius has no idea what happens to the MIDI data down the line. No other intelligence is passing between Sibelius and Reason, so it’s impossible to have Sibelius assemble Reason’s “performance” into audio and mix down the result.

A Virtual Instrument in Sibelius is an instrument Sibelius controls — it exists within the Sibelius application, so Sibelius controls everything. Reason is its own application, so it doesn’t qualify as a Virtual Instrument.

If you want a recording of the Reason sounds, you gotta follow the instructions here (or some variation): you must use software or hardware to record that performance, and that software won’t be Sibelius, it’ll be software that can record audio (e.g. Peak or Sound Studio).

The only thing I can not seem to do is use the audio export function in Sibelius when using the IAC Driver Bus 1. I get a pop-up that tells me I don’t have a virtual instrument in the playback set-up. Is there anyway I can click on the export audio function in Sibelius 5 and have the generated audiofile use the Reason sounds?
