Would it be possible for you to explain a bit more about the MODx logging?
(how to switch it on or off, how and when to use it, are there several alternatives, or is there “one way”?)

Of course you can. You can use seperate dbases one for modx and one for own stuff. There’s a db api to simply switch between them.
