Here’s what I found: when I tried to download the eicar.com file, it stopped the download and deleted the test virus.

When I downloaded the zip files, though, it did nothing. Only if I manually scanned the zip files did it detect the test virus. I agree that this behavior should be better, but I would still be comfortable using it.

I haven’t looked at Rising much since I wrote this review. Perhaps it’s time for a refresh.

As soon as a downloaded the virus test file to my desktop, AVIRA caught it. Now, I like to experiment with new freeware and I feel Rising Sun AV has a lot of potential, however I consider Rising Sun a work in progress.

Check out the test results for the full versions of many of the popular anti virus software programs at:

Rising Sun AV did not warn me that the eicar.com file contained a virus signature even after several minutes had passed. I ran the eicar.com file, still no warning from Rising Sun AV. Only after I right clicked on the eicar.com file and selected to have Rising Sun AV scan the file did the program detect the virus signature in the file. Not very reassuring to say the least.

Has anyone fared better then what I am reporting with the Rising Sun Antivirus program?

Nice article with a crisp informative….almost as if you were getting kickbacks…only joking..i might actually try Rising as a result. In the article you mentioned the EICAR test, reminded me of icarus for some reason. Anyway there is a website called Shields up you should/could try when you want to test security programs.
It will find a way through if there is one.
Anyway again, nice little article there…pity more articles like that arent available for people who want to research before they download progs.

This series is exactly what I needed. Indeed, it could be better throwing the antivirus on a system full of viruses, but that would be a huge lot of work, and you would drive the testers from professional magazines out of work 🙂

As far as I’m concerned, I have enjoyed the series a lot, and I have found really great info. I’m using as of today Rising AV, and the experience is being extremely positive. Thanks!

I have gotten to the point that I have built a new machine and installed Server 2008 on it. I will certainly be following this and the other software recommendations for the project that you have posted here. Thanks and keep up the fine work.

The title of this article kindled my curiosity, part XI. I enjoyed reading the article. Great Job!
