I had no major qualms with 1and1 other than feeling like we had outgrown them (see the downsides of shared hosting). MediaTemple will give us a lot more room to grow without worrying about the occasional spike of […]

Before putting a website, webmaster should think about how much traffic is expected. But the fact remains, that its really difficult to predict website. One good and unique article can load your website with lot of traffic. The best thing webmaster can do is constantly monitor the traffic and take right steps before your site utilizes all of the allocated bandwidth.

As for myself, I discovered the WP-cache plugin for WordPress, and I’m using it now on my site (still hosted by 1and1). It’s sufficing for now, but I’ve not yet received another “digg” effect. If I get hit by another surge of traffic and the server crumbles, I’ll definitely transfer to Media Temple of a VPS.

I found your post while debating whether to put more “eggs” into my “basket” at 1&1 and you helped me see quickly which eggs to keep there (static pages) and which future content might be best to do elsewhere (blogs or forums or wikis).

I found your post off a reply you left on another blog whose owner left 1&1 due to a “digg spike” too. He says he’s been happy with Media Temple for dynamic content.
